How to Replace Tarp on Donovan Hy-Tower System Steps:

The following steps will explain how to remove the old tarp, install the new tarp, and then properly tension the roller bar so that the tarp deploys and retracts properly.

This blog is not intended to replace manufacturer guidance, so please always refer to the specific instructions provided from the manufacturer for your particular tarp system model.

Tools you’ll need:

  • 1 Large C-clamp (6” or larger)
  • Razor blade
  • Straps
  • Ratchet with a ¾ inch adapter (if tension needs adjustment)

Step 1: Completely unroll the previously installed tarp to expose the tarp roller (tarp axle).

Step 2: Secure the tarp with a strap, rope, etc. to prevent it from rolling back up.

Step 3: Remove the pull bar or rope.

Step 4: Use a c-clamp to secure the tarp axle and prevent it from winding due to tension on the roller.

Step 5: If tarp will be discarded, cut the tarp off near the tarp roller with the razor blade to make removal easier.

Step 6: Remove remaining tarp by sliding the spline out from the tarp roller groove.

Step 7: Lay out the new tarp and feed spline through tarp roller groove so it is evenly distributed.
Note: Tarp might extend beyond the roller on each side, which is normal.

Step 8: Attach pull rope or pull bar to new tarp.
Tip: If you are using a pull bar, you can cut a couple of slits at the end of the tarp pocket and secure with zip ties to prevent pull bar from sliding out.

Step 9: Secure new tarp with straps to prevent it from rolling up when the clamp is removed in the next step.

Step 10: Carefully remove c-clamp from tarp roller.

Step 11: Using pull bar or rope, allow new tarp to wind evenly onto the tarp roller.

Step 12: Adjust tension on tarp roller with ratchet, if necessary.
