Posted by Dani Haskin on

American Tarping and Buyers Products are launching new products and Salt Dogg is one not to miss. Not all Salt Dogg products need wiring, but if you have recently purchased a tailgate spreader or your first Salt Dogg product, it’s important to know how to wire a salt spreader. Wiring a salt spreader involves connecting the electrical components of the spreader to the power source, which is typically a vehicle battery. Here is a general guide on how to wire a salt spreader:

Gather the necessary tools and materials, including wire, wire connectors, a fuse, and a wiring diagram for the specific salt spreader you are working on. Make sure you are following proper safety precautions by disconnecting the negative (black wire) cable from the battery.

  1. Locate the power source, which is typically the vehicle battery.

  2. Run the positive wire from the battery to the fuse box.

  3. Connect the fuse to the positive wire and install it in the fuse box.

  4. Run a wire from the fuse box to the control switch for the salt spreader.

  5. Connect the control switch to the wire from the fuse box.

  6. Run a wire from the control switch to the motor of the salt spreader.

  7. Connect the motor to the wire from the control switch.

  8. Run a ground wire from the negative terminal of the battery to the frame of the salt spreader.

  9. Test the spreader to ensure that it is working properly.

It is important to refer to the specific wiring diagram for the salt spreader you are working on and to take all necessary safety precautions when working with electrical components. If you are not comfortable with wiring or have any doubts, it is best to consult a professional or the manufacturer for guidance. We are always looking to make our products and services more seamless and informative. We hope this outline of how to wire a salt spreader is useful in your recent purchase and your future products.
